Hacker exchanges are a sort of trade that allows some member(s) of a hackerspace to have access to some other hackerspace(s), possibly including members from both spaces or a cycle of trades between several spaces. For example:
- member A from space 1 may exchange with space 2, but no member of space 2 travels to space 1 at the current time, perhaps maybe in the future
- member A from space 1 may trade with member B from space 2
- member A from space 1 goes to space 2, member B from space 2 goes to space 3, and member C from space 3 goes to space 1 (or some other similar cycle, possibly delayed over time)
The goals of hacker exchanges must certainly be different, but the underlying value is learning from a person from a different hackerspace community with the intention to benefit both spaces and strengthen cross-space and international ties.
