Australia's first Hackerspace!
Hello Everyone!
Here are the essentials:
- Group email address hackerspace_brisbane@googlegroups.com
- Public Group Calendar
- IRC chat channel: irc://irc.freenode.net/hsbne ( firefox users will love chatzilla: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/16 )
Membership to the mailing list is open to all!
Group Administrators name is David, but everyone knows me as Buzz. I guess that makes me the "Acting President" of the physical group for the time being too. :-) Don't worry, I'm a good actor.
First, I'd like to say thanks to everyone for showing an interest. Please tell your friends ( oh, we're geeks, so that might be limiting - tell EVERYONE! ) Our list membership is growing rapidly. I have it on good authority that if 1/2 of us are keen enough to actually get the $$ out of the pocket, then we might have a real chance at making this work.
Why are we here? We want a in-person geek shared workspace and general nerd love-in place for cool things to actually happen. We want community, discussions, and offers of help.
We have people interested in: programming, linux, security, micro-controllers, arduinos, electronics, firmware, software , RC-flying (helis and planes) , UAV's , cars , mechatronics, robotics, 3D printing, PCB-etching, metal-casting, woodworking, and more....... if it can be hacked, we like it.
Hackerspace_Brisbane members map - You can view and edit this map at http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=110243549832153818125.0004668a8fcb7ca1ecb92
Please put a pin on the map for where (or somewhere near) you live , so we can gauge for potentially the best location/s.
I'd encourage you to join the list if you haven't already, and to say hello. We're fairly quiet on-list ( at the moment) , but the meetings aren't. Our IRC channel also has it's moments. :-)
welcome again!
Buzz ( aka David )
President, Hackerspace Brisbane.
-- UPDATE November 2009
We are now live! Thanks to a generous donation by one of our members, we now have a space to call our own for a while until we find something better. Woohoo!
