The NUIM Makers Club was founded during Autumn 2008. Our first group met on the 24th October 2008 and set out to see if we could bring a making and building culture to the engineering and product design students of the National University of Ireland Maynooth. John Fitzpatrick (who introduced us all to Make Magazine), John Malocco, Denis Buckley, myself (Tomas Ward) and probably a few others I forget now started playing with Arduinos and steppers and R/C systems and before long we realised this was perhaps the most engineering fun we had in some time! We met weekly that term and broadened the club further with another launch in Semester 2 that academic year - this time we brought in people who had never soldered in their lives! Since then it has been up and down but always fun.
