  • UPDATE*

We have been working with the community and building a following on Facebook. Our facebook group membership is up to 118 people. We are moving forward in the plans to get a space open and operating. Our goal is to have our space THIS YEAR!!! We have a survey up (see our webpage) to get feedback about what the public is looking for in a space. We will be having a member(board) meeting at 6PM on February 26 at the Rogers Public Library.

NorthWest Arkansas needs a hackerspace. There have been at least 2 attempts in the past and they both appear to have died on the vine. This is Take 3. I would like to build Take 3 in Benton County instead of in Fayetteville. This is due to the fact that there are a large number of professionals who would like to have a hackerspace, but don't want to travel too far to go. The actual location could be somewhere in Lowell or Southern Rogers. By going to Lowell, we could probably find a space with a lower lease price. What I want in a Hacker/maker space.

The clubhouse for an active hacker/maker club.

Somewhat centrally located near I-540 at or north of exit 78 (Monroe Ave. Lowell)

Reasonable monthly fees with a sliding scale based on willingness to volunteer time towards club maintenance and fundraising activities.

Active in the community.

Safe and fully insured.

Classes.

Well equipped shop.

Laser cutter

Full sheet CNC router/plasma cutter.

MIG welder

Wood working tools.

Additional space for more based on the requirements of the group.

If you would like to see a hacker or maker space in Northwest Arkansas, then join the cause by following this blog or joining the Facebook group. http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_202090853157613

NOTE: This is an attempt to put together an exploratory committee to look see if there is sufficient demand for a hackerspace. Nothing is set for building the space in Lowell. If it turns out that everyone is from Bentonville, we could put it up here instead. We just want to put it in a central location that can benefit from both communities. We need all the help we can get. It is highly unlikely that this hackerspace will ever happen if we cannot find at least 15 paying members and that is if we just want to sit around an empty room. Invite your friends and let's start a discussion.
